Grey Sands Vineyard
Grey Sands Vineyard is on the western side of the Tamar Valley, approx 35km north of Launceston & our tasting area has great views across the valley. Bob loves 'blends' more than single varietal wines. We currently have 18 different grape varieties bearing, from which we make 8-12 different wines, depending on the season. In really cool years we don't get all our varieties fully ripe. At Grey Sands we are totally unirrigated, meaning we are aiming for maximum concentration of flavour rather than maximum yield. Bob's philosphy of wine is simple: fermented grape juice plus TIME = wine. We hold our wines back and cellar them at optimum temperature and release them when we think they are 'approachable' but will all cellar another 5-8 years after release. We are currently showing 4 white wines (3 varietals + a white blend); a Rose, 5 red varietals & 2 red 'blends' at our tastings. We look forward to telling you our stories
